Identify, Implement, Improve

“The Time is NOW” was the theme for our 2011 Astonish Results annual employee meeting. This mantra is something that has me totally psyched for the upcoming year, because the time is NOW to grow, expand, and make yourself and your business better than it has ever been before.

When I go on the road to speak, I constantly have agency principals asking me what they should do next because their agency is suffering. The first thing I always say back is, “Do you even know what your issue is?” Because to fix a problem, it must first be identified. I ask them what it is they want to do within their agency — you must be able to answer the question What do I want to see happen? — before steps can actually be taken towards that specific goal.

Most of the time, these agency owners respond by saying they want to be more profitable and double the size of their agency. I then ask, “Well, how much do you want to grow by: twenty, thirty, or forty percent?” Once a goal is derived, I follow up by asking, “What was your revenue last year? Is your goal a possible outcome within the next 360 days?”

Once a reachable goal is determined, the next step is to make a plan and put it into action. Often, once agency principals determine what it is they want to do, they then spend valuable time wondering how exactly to do it. Everyone in your company will have an answer to the question: What now? All the answers may be different, but I guarantee that they can come together to create a workable solution.

The next issue agencies face is that many of these hard-sought ideas and “solutions” just end up sitting on the shelves. The time is NOW to implement your ideas, to put strategies in place, and to grow your insurance agency. You have your goals in place, now get to work and start producing results!

To truly be successful, you need to know what your distinct issue is at hand, and then decide how specifically you plan to fix it based on your current situation. Decide on a system and make sure the entire agency is on board and are aware that from this point on, they will all be utilizing this refreshed approach. If you have the right people, the right tools, and the right attitude, the only thing that can stop you is not putting your plan into action.
